Hi, I’m Sowania Germain.

You're a mom feeling anxious and overwhelmed, and you don't know where to start. You've tried therapy. You've talked things through. But talking alone isn't fixing it. Maybe you've even tried couples therapy, but you're still stuck in the same repetitive arguments and conflicts.

It feels like you've tried everything you know how to do, but nothing has worked.

I get it. Because I've been there too.

I Get It Because I'm a Mom

I'm not just a therapist who works with moms—I am one. I have three kids. I know what it's like to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and like you're failing at everything.

I've struggled with balancing it all. I've had to learn how to identify my needs and communicate them effectively. I've done the inner healing work, and I continue to do it.

I don't ask my clients to go anywhere I haven't gone myself. I know how hard it is to really commit to the therapeutic process. But I also know it's worth it—that the hard work of therapy can result in true life change.

My Story: Why I Do This Work

Hi, I'm Sowania Germain, licensed mental health counselor, certified EMDR therapist, perinatal mental health specialist, and mother of three.

Thirteen years ago, in 2011, I had a traumatic birth experience with my first child. My partner and I felt completely alone and unsupported as new parents. No one prepared us for the trauma. No one warned us how isolated we'd feel. And no one showed up with the kind of support we desperately needed.

That experience changed everything for me—personally and professionally.

I realized something that's shaped my entire practice: This generation of mothers doesn't have the support that past generations had.

My mom had a village. She had extended family nearby. She had neighbors who brought meals and watched kids without being asked. She had a built-in support system.

But today? Most moms are doing it alone. Or with partners who are equally overwhelmed. Or while juggling full-time careers. Or in cities far from family.

And it's breaking us.

That's why I became the therapist I wish I'd had. I pursued specialized training in perinatal mental health. I became certified in EMDR therapy because I knew talk therapy alone wasn't enough for the trauma I was carrying. And I built a practice dedicated to helping moms and families heal.

Because when a mother is healthier, the entire family unit is healthier.

What Moms Actually Bring to Therapy

Let me tell you what most of my clients are dealing with when they come to me:

Anxiety that's out of control.  Racing thoughts, constant worry, intrusive fears. Your nervous system won't calm down, and it's affecting everything.

Feeling overwhelmed by family systems.  Extended family dynamics, in-laws with opinions, lack of boundaries, cultural expectations that don't fit who you are as a mom.

Lack of support.  You're doing this alone (or it feels that way). Your partner doesn't get it. Your family isn't nearby. Your friends without kids don't understand. And you're exhausted from pretending you're fine.

Not knowing where to get support. You know you need help, but you don't know who to ask, how to find it, or what kind of support would actually help.

Managing emotions.  You're angry, sad, numb, or cycling through all of it in a single day. And you don't know how to regulate it anymore.

Struggling to convey needs to partners or family.  You need help, but when you try to ask for it, it comes out as frustration or resentment. Or you don't ask at all because you're too tired to explain.

Guilt and shame as a mom and woman.  Guilt for working. Guilt for not working. Guilt for wanting time alone. Guilt for not being "enough." Shame for struggling when you "should" be happy.

Balancing being a full-time mom or working mom.  Whether you work outside the home or stay home with your kids, the pressure is crushing. You feel guilty either way.

Managing a career while being present for your child.  You want to be a good mom AND pursue your career goals. But the constant juggling makes you feel like you're failing at both.

If this sounds like you, you're in the right place.

How I Work: My Approach

Clients describe me as both empathetic and encouraging. I'm validating of your experiences and how they've impacted you. But I'm also direct, I'll challenge you to look deeper, ask the hard questions, and face the uncomfortable stuff.

Here's what makes my approach different:

I'm Comfortable With the "Difficult" Topics

Generational trauma. Childhood wounds. How your past is showing up in your parenting. The ways you're sabotaging yourself without realizing it. I welcome these conversations because that's where real healing happens.

I Don't Just Talk, I Use Tools That Work

I'm trained in EMDR therapy, which goes beyond traditional talk therapy to process trauma at the level it's stored—in your nervous system. I also use Imago therapy for couples, DBT skills for emotion regulation, and trauma-informed approaches for everything I do.

What I Specialize In

I am deeply passionate about supporting the postpartum population because I've seen firsthand, as a mom 14 years ago, how isolated and unsupported this season can be.

Perinatal Mental Health Expert

I specialize in the mental health of moms during pregnancy and postpartum:

  • Postpartum depression and anxiety

  • Birth trauma and medical trauma

  • Pregnancy loss and grief

  • Adjustment to motherhood

  • Prenatal anxiety and preparation for birth

  • Maternal identity shifts

Imago-Trained Couples Therapist

I'm trained in Imago Relationship Therapy, a specialized approach that helps couples understand the unconscious patterns driving their conflicts. It's especially effective for:

  • Couples stuck in repetitive arguments

  • Partners feeling disconnected after having kids

  • Rebuilding trust after betrayal

  • Navigating parenting stress and relationship shifts

EMDR-Trained Trauma Therapist

I'm extensively trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)—one of the most effective treatments for trauma. EMDR works when talk therapy doesn't because it addresses trauma at the level it's stored: in your body and nervous system.

I use EMDR to help clients process:

  • Birth trauma

  • Childhood trauma and complex PTSD

  • Relationship trauma

  • Anxiety and panic disorders

  • Grief and loss

Additional Areas of Support

  • Adjustment challenges (new motherhood, career changes, life transitions)

  • Depression and anxiety disorders

  • Family conflict and parenting challenges

  • Marital stress and communication issues

  • Substance abuse and unhealthy coping mechanisms

  • Cultural adjustment and identity challenges

  • Perinatal loss and grief

When Mom Is Healthy, the Whole Family Benefits

Here's what I've learned over 14 years of being a mom and years of working with mothers:

When a mom is mentally and emotionally healthy, the entire family unit is healthier.

Kids feel safer. Partners feel more connected. The home environment is calmer. Everyone thrives.

But when a mom is struggling, drowning in anxiety, weighed down by trauma, exhausted from trying to do it all, everyone feels it.

You're not just healing for yourself. You're healing for your family.

And that's why getting support isn't selfish. It's essential.

Why Moms Choose to Work With Me

Because I'm a mom of three. I know what it's like to be overwhelmed, exhausted, and questioning if you're doing it right. I'm not speaking from theory, I'm speaking from lived experience.

Because I've done my own healing work. Through my own inner healing and continued  self work,  I gained the necessary  tools needed to identify my needs & communicate them effectively with others.

Because I specialize in perinatal mental health. This isn't just a side interest,it's my passion and my expertise. I've pursued extensive training specifically to support moms through pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

Because I'm trained in EMDR and go beyond traditional talk therapy. If you've tried talk therapy and it didn't fully work, EMDR might be the missing piece. I'm certified and experienced in using EMDR to process trauma at a deeper level.

Because I believe in the ripple effect. When a mom heals, her family heals. Her kids benefit. Her relationship improves. Her whole life shifts. That's why this work matters so much.
