Couples Therapy in Florida & New York
Imago Therapy for couples…
it’s going to be the best thing for your relationship.
Imago relationship therapy aims to equip couples with the tools necessary to relate to each other in healthier ways and reveal the emotional pathway formed in childhood that led them to their current situation.
This form of therapy combines spiritual and behavioral techniques with Western psychological methodologies in order to assist couples in unveiling their unconscious components.
Consider these words from Dr. Harville Hendrix’s book, Getting The Love You Want:
“We cannot experience life in its fullness unless we have an intimate relationship with another human being.”
If you work on maintaining an intimate relationship with your partner, you will feel more fully alive and whole.

Developed by Dr. Harville Hendrix and Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt, this method blends spiritual insight, behavioral tools, and Western psychological principles—including neuroscience and attachment theory—to foster deeper empathy and conscious communication. By uncovering the emotional pathways formed early in life, couples gain the tools to relate in healthier, more fulfilling ways.

Why Choose Imago Therapy?
Imago Therapy teaches couples how to listen, mirror, and empathize with each other’s thoughts and emotions, creating a safe space where vulnerability and intimacy can flourish.
This approach is especially effective for:
Couples feeling emotionally disconnected
Partners recovering from betrayal or affairs
Relationships impacted by childhood trauma, attachment wounds, or past experiences with caregivers
Individuals who want to better understand how learned behaviors and nonverbal cues impact their relationships
New parents navigating relationship shifts after having children
Partners considering divorce but hoping to rebuild their bond
The Psychology Behind Imago Therapy
Imago therapy draws on key concepts in attachment theory, neuroscience, and behavioral psychology. It explores how early relationships with caregivers influence current attachment styles, communication habits, and emotional triggers in intimate relationships.
By making these patterns conscious, couples can:
Uncover unresolved childhood wounds
Develop secure attachment styles
Replace reactive behaviors with thoughtful responses
Deepen emotional intimacy and rebuild trust
As Dr. Hendrix explains in his bestselling book Getting the Love You Want, our romantic relationships are often mirrors of our early family dynamics. In learning how to empathize with your partner’s childhood experiences, you begin healing together.
Communicate with Clarity, Validate with Care, Connect with Empathy
What Is the Imago Dialogue?
The Imago Dialogue is a structured communication technique used in therapy sessions to strengthen empathy, connection, and understanding.
Using the dialogue, couples engage in three intentional steps:
Mirroring – One partner reflects what the other has said, word for word, without judgment.
Validation – The listener validates the speaker’s emotions, even if they don’t fully agree.
Empathy – The listener tries to feel what the speaker is feeling, enhancing emotional closeness and connection.
This process helps shift the brain out of “reactive mode” and into conscious connection, allowing couples to respond with compassion instead of defensiveness.

Sowania was extremely helpful in improving our communication as a couple and leading us to better empathize with one another. ”
Whether new parenthood has changed your relationship or you’ve been struggling with your partner for a while…
Part of our problem is in how we may have been brought up. We don’t always know better, but equipped with the right knowledge, we can break our learned behaviors and have a better quality of life through better relationships.
The Parent-Child dialogue in Imago Therapy is a way to share information with your partner about what it was like for you to grow up in your family in a safe place.
Imago Therapy is for couples….
who want to learn effective ways to communicate
thinking about divorce
who’ve had affairs
…Or anyone who wants to improve the quality of their relationships.
